Wedding Day Dessert Catering with Great Scott

Dessert Catering with Great Scott’s artisan ice pops is a great way to add some unique flair on your big day

Big or small, minimalist or extravagant, in vacation destinations or in backyards, weddings come in all shapes and sizes. I’ve always loved weddings – It’s why offering dessert catering at weddings is so much fun for us at Great Scott.

One of my favorite wedding memories is from a reception I attended a few years ago. During what is traditionally the bouquet and garter toss, the newlyweds did something different.

The DJ started by asking all of the married couples at the reception to join the newlyweds on the dance floor. As the music began, the DJ asked couples who had been married less than a year to return to their table, and of course, the newlyweds returned to their seats along with a few other couples.

On and on the DJ went, higher and higher.

Three years.

Five years.

Ten.

Eventually, just one couple was left on the dance floor, who had been married the longest — 58 years!

The newlyweds then returned to the dance floor and presented the bouquet to them and then the two couples shared a dance.

Weddings are a reflection of a couple

That moment has stuck in my mind all these years not just because it was different, but because that choice said something about the newly wedded couple. It said something about their values; it demonstrated how much they respected commitment and that they wanted to honor another couple who had done it well.

One of my favorite parts of weddings has always been witnessing how couples make the ceremony and reception a reflection of themselves, their values, and their life together.

Making unique memories

Great Scott loves helping couples make unique memories! Being invited to participate in your wedding is a special honor, and we take that honor seriously.

The couples we’ve worked with have done lots of different things with our dessert catering. We’ve had pops waiting for guests after exiting the ceremony, a push-cart at an outdoor wedding reception, and we’ve even set up a trike for a pre-wedding golf outing. We love new, out-of-the-wrapper ideas!

If you’re planning your big day and are curious about how Great Scott pops could add a little flair to your big day, get in touch! We’d love to talk to you.

Dessert Catering coming to Kalamazoo

Great Scott will soon launch Dessert Catering in West Michigan

I never wanted an ice cream truck for dessert catering. I wanted an ice cream shop.

I’ve always wanted to have a place where people could come to find Great Scott; I wanted my own shop, a permanent place. Then I looked at the costs of setting up a literal shop and making an investment that size would mean leaving my day job. And I’m just not ready to do that yet.

An ice cream truck though? I might be able to make that work with the right plan!

In 2017 I was in Indianapolis for a long weekend and I saw a fantastic looking International Metro that had been restored and was being used as a catering truck for serving wine. I immediately fell in love with the look. Ever since then, I’ve held onto the idea of having an old food truck for wedding catering and banquets.

Maybe I could combine the two ideas – a “shop” in a truck! How could we expand our menu if we had a truck, I wondered. I knew it would be easy to sell our pops from a catering truck, but what else could we do with a mobile shop?

My mind kept coming back to retro ice cream parlors – sundaes and sodas and ice cream and floats! We’ve already begun experimenting with sodas infused with homemade syrups made with ingredients from Michigan growers. And we’ve tested them with our own great-tasting, locally sourced scoop ice-creams. Those two items make some amazing pairings.

We can’t wait to share them with you soon!

We’ll be posting updates on the progress of the food truck leading up to ice cream season. Be sure to follow our blog, Instagram, and Facebook channels for updates on dessert catering opportunities, which we’ll be offering to patrons in all of lower Michigan!
